Proper insulation and air circulation is key to an energy efficient and well performing attic and roofing system.

It is extremely important to make sure that the attic has proper air circulation.  Blocking air vents or covering soffit air vents is common mistake home owners make.  Allowing natural air to flow through roof and soffit vents keeps the temperature in attic cold preventing the potential of ice dams from building around the gutters.

It is also equally important to prevent heat from below to enter the attic, by installing proper attic insulation and sealing all entries and gaps where warm air from below to enter the attic.

During summer months, a well ventilated attic allows natural air to circulate through the attic moving very hot air and moisture out of the attic and protecting the roof structure and roof shingles while, proper insulation on attic floor prevents hot air from transferring to the floor below adding to energy savings.

installing attic ventilation baffles ma riProper attic ventilation is accomplished by adding a combination of ridge, soffit and gable vents.  In most cases it can be done by a home owner with very little tools. In addition, adding non-faced fiberglass or blown in attic insulation can help keep the home cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

It highly recommended consulting with a local company experienced in attic ventilation and insulation inspections and installations.  They have the right test and monitoring equipment along with properly trained technicians to test for heat and humidity content in the attic.
